Backstory: Despite being born in a town named Ordinary, Jesse's life has been anything but. As a child, she, her brother Dylan, and some other neighborhood kids found an old slide projector with strange powers that could open windows to other worlds. After playing around for a while, they unleashed...something. All the adults in Ordinary vanished, and things got weirder from there until Jesse was able to turn off the projector. That should have been the end of it, but men from the mysterious "Federal Bureau of Control" appeared to cover the whole thing up. They took Dylan and left her in the hands of the foster system. Jesse wasn't alone, however. Some sort of entity from the other world still lived in her head. It became her friend and she came to call it Polaris.
She spent the next twenty years drifting through life, unable to fully focus on the mundane world anymore when she knew there was so much more out there. She went through a whole series of dead-end jobs where she didn't have to talk to people, a few short lived relationships, but never gave up on her quest to find her missing brother. It all led her to a building in New York. The Oldest House. It was the tallest building in the city by far, but somehow no one seemed to notice it unless they already knew it was there. It was only because she knew the FBC was out there that she was able to notice it herself.
Together with Polaris, Jesse started exploring the Oldest House. Despite being quite large on the outside, it was even bigger on the inside, but one of the first places she found was the Director's office. There, she found the Director of the FBC, dead, of apparent suicide. She also found the gun he'd used. The Service Weapon.
Whoever the Service Weapon bonded with was the Director of the FBC, and as the FBC was currently locked in a pitched battle with an invading corrupting force known as the Hiss, Jesse got pulled into the fight herself. After many battles, she finally found her brother only to find out he was the Hiss's ally. Ultimately, the battle ended with the Hiss defeated and contained, but with Dylan lost in a coma.
Jesse went on to embrace her role as Director, feeling more comfortable in this weird world of the paranatural than she did in the world of the mundane. Maybe, someday, she could even bring Dylan back.
TL;DR: Weird drifter accidentally becomes super powered Director of the Federal Bureau of Control and works to keep the paranatural contained.

Powers
- Service Weapon: It acts like a gun, but isn't a gun. It's more like the idea of a gun. The Service Weapon can shoot things, but it doesn't require bullets and can be reconfigured to be a handgun, a submachine gun, a shotgun, a rocket launcher, a rifle, or a grenade launcher. No one but Jesse can use it, and it will always find its way back to her as long as she lives and accepts the duties of the FBC Director.
- Telekinesis: Jesse can move objects with her mind, usually accompanied by meaningful looking hand gestures. She can lift things as big as a forklift and fling them with enough force to become deadly weapons, so it's quite powerful.
- Shield: Jesse can pull nearby debris into a shield in front of her, blocking and absorbing anything that approaches her. Doing so takes all her concentration so she can't use any other powers while doing so.
- Polaris: Anything that tries to invade Jesse's mind will it already invaded by a strange non-corporeal entity that protects her.
- Mind control: Jesse can temporarily hijack control from those who have already had their minds crushed by something else. Healthy minds can resist her.
First Impressions
- Appearance: 5'8, slim build, red hair usually tied back in a ponytail, favors practical, comfortable clothes. Has a leather jacket she likes a lot. Usually she is carrying the Service Weapon somewhere on her.
- Vibes: She's a fucking weirdo who talks to herself a lot and spends a lot of time thinking before she says anything. Practical, brusque, and to the point. Socially awkward because she's never had a lot of friends.
